What is a VCD and XCD?
VCD stands for "Video CD".
It can be played on any computer with a CD-ROM drive. It plays
just like a regular video would on a VHS player. XCD is a direct
rendering of a Fearture release and will play on your CD rom drive
and in select DVD players (check with manufaturer)

Do I need any special hardware in order to play my VCD's?
No
Are there any requirements in order to play VCD's and XCD on my computer?
Usually not. If when you place the VCD in the CD-ROM player, it does not play automatically, you can download special software called "MPEG player software" available Free on the internet:

What if the vcd does not play automatically when I put it into the cd-rom drive?
Simply Click "File",
"Open", then Change "Files of type" to "All
files (*.*)"
Go to your CD Rom Drive (eg. D Drive) Open "Mpegav"
Folder, select " *.dat " files to run. This should initiate
the process of decoding the vcd to your computer!!

Yes, there are several reasons to buy VCD's over Regular VHS Videos:
A. Durability. Video CD will last a lifetime without fading or deteriorating in quality
B. You can take still samples of the footage to be used in several applications or just to print out.
C. VCD's are easy to carry and store. You can store them in small places and thus save space.
D. Many (not all) VCD's are DVD compatible so they can be played interchangeably.
E. Picture quality in VCD's has the same excellent picture quality as DVD's but cost tens of dollars less!!
F. Many Asian Adult Video features are only available on VCD since this a standard in those countries.
